It is so apparent that Hanna wants to be sitting like a big girl. She fusses when we prop her on the Boppy, she fusses if you let her lay on the bed to long and she does not like to be cradled for very long.

(Yes, feeding has become very difficult!)

So we are using the Bumbo seat more and more now and she has become really good at sitting in the high chair. (I should add that she is also good at falling asleep in the high chair. And no, I don't leave her there.)

This is one of my most recent favorites!

4.5 Month Update

I have wanted to do this for some time so now seems as good a time as any. At nearly 4.5 half months old, Hanna is such a pleasant baby. She is such a joy in our lives. Hanna is becoming familiar with faces and voices. She is quick to give a big smile to those she is most familiar with.

A few weeks ago teething started. It is there, we can feel it. It just hasn’t broken through the gum yet. Overall teething thus far has not been bad. We have had a few meltdowns that I thought were going to be the signal of a bad teething experience but so far things are ok. It must have been all of the needles in the ICN that made her such a trooper.

This past week Hanna reached two major milestones. She is very good at getting a hold of her right foot and not letting go. As for the left foot…I don’t think she knows that it is there. Or if she does, she doesn’t have any desire to grab a hold of it. The second milestone is a big one…drum roll please….rolling over!! And I must say she gets pretty excited when she does it. Sometimes the underarm gets a little stuck and needs a little help but not always. Rolling seems to go best when she rolls from her back to her belly going to the left. Once she gets to her belly she seems to like tummy time just a little bit more. We have had the occasional roll from the belly to back but we are still working on that.

Hanna has been blowing raspberries for a few weeks now. Sometimes she really gets into it too. I just love it when she wakes up early in the morning and blows raspberries at the animals on her mobile. And then she giggles at herself. It is such a pleasant sound to wake up to on the monitor.

Next week we take Hanna to the doctors for her 4 month check-up. We are hopeful that we will not have to use the 22 calorie formula any longer and that we can start with some cereal. I think Hanna is more then ready. When I sat her on the scale the other day it said 13.5 pounds. I am anxious to find out her weight.

Such a cutie!

There is that finger again!
Burp cloths have all kinds of uses!
She can't figure out how to get the orange thing
in her mouth so she opted for her hand!

A Poem

I came across this on another blog and thought it was cute.

Mother, O Mother, come shake out your cloth,
Empty the dustpan, poison the moth,
Hang out the washing, make up the bed,
Sew on a button and butter the bread.

Where is the mother whose house is so shocking?
She's up in the nursery, blissfully rocking.

Oh, I've grown as shiftless as Little Boy Blue,
Lullabye, rockabye, lullabye loo.
Dishes are waiting and bills are past due
Pat-a-cake, darling, and peek, peekaboo

The shopping's not done and there's nothing for stew
And out in the yard there's a hullabaloo
But I'm playing Kanga and this is my Roo
Look! Aren't his eyes the most wonderful hue?
Lullabye, rockaby lullabye loo.

The cleaning and scrubbing can wait till tomorrow
But children grow up as I've learned to my sorrow.
So quiet down cobwebs; Dust go to sleep!
I'm rocking my baby and babies don't keep.

Not a Scooter...

Because I have nothing better to do with my time, I decided to draw you some pictures of how active Miss Hanna has become when she is sleeping.

I must preface the pictures by saying I am not an artist. Never have been. Never will be. The drawings below are not to scale. They are for amusement. Please do not try to sell these pictures as your own. (I don't know why you would!)

This is how it always begins. Hanna goes to sleep in her crib in this direction.
Twice I have found her like this. For a real picture of this see here.
Most recently (2 nights ago) I found her like this.
I don't know how she does it. She isn't rolling over yet. She does kick her legs a lot, so she must be kicking and moving herself around.

Go ahead call her Scooter if you want...just not in front of Stephen. He doesn't like it :)

Mother's Day Recap

I have to admit that I really do love being a Mom. Maybe it is because Hanna is such a good baby that makes it so enjoyable. I don’t know. I didn’t really know what to expect or how I would feel on Mother’s Day. I mean, I know some think it is just another Hallmark holiday and some think everyday should be Mother’s Day. Stephen had told me that I wasn’t allowed to do any cleaning this weekend that he was going to take care of it. I thought, I can’t possibly sit around and do nothing all weekend. So I was allowed to do laundry. And make dinner on Saturday. And help him prep Saturday night for the breakfast he was making on Sunday.

I love my Mother’s Day present. Who doesn’t like jewelry? Stephen is a last minute shopper and sometimes that frustrates me. But I am starting to understand why he does this. He gets so excited for his purchases that he has a hard time waiting until the “holiday” to give it. So I was not shocked when he walked into the kitchen on Saturday night and told me to pick a hand. To my surprise I was given a ring with Hanna’s birthstone. I love it! I was not expecting it at all. (Good job dear!)

Sunday morning we had MIL, FIL, BIL, SIL (that’s for you Carlie!) and G-MomMom and G-PopPop over for breakfast made by Stephen. A great time was had by all.

That afternoon Hanna took her first visit to the cemetery to visit Great Grandma and Great Grandpa Lock. (For those who don’t already know, Hanna was Gram Lock’s maiden name) I wish they could have met Hanna. I know they would have loved her as much she loves them. Hanna is already taking after her Great Grandpa.

We then headed over to the Lock’s for dinner. And because Hanna didn’t nap so well, she slept most of the time we were there. And then I received the very best Mother’s Day gift of all. Hanna threw up all over my back. Gotta love it!!

I should add that Hanna started teething this weekend. Yup you read right. And it isn’t even a front tooth like you would think. Nope, she skipped those and is heading right for an eye tooth. So we are dealing with fussiness like we have never experienced before. I am just shocked that she is getting so big and teething already. People keep telling me it goes fast but gosh, it really does.

Before I was a Mom

Before I was a Mom,
I never tripped over toys
or forgot words to a lullaby.
I didn't worry whether or not
my plants were poisonous.
I never thought about immunizations.

Before I was a Mom,
I had never been puked on.
Pooped on.
Chewed on.
Peed on.
I had complete control of my mind
and my thoughts.
I slept all night.

Before I was a Mom,
I never held down a screaming child
so doctors could do tests.
Or give shots.
I never looked into teary eyes and cried.
I never got gloriously happy over a simple grin.
I never sat up late hours at night
watching a baby sleep.

Before I was a Mom,
I never held a sleeping baby just because
I didn't want to put her down.
I never felt my heart break into a million pieces
when I couldn't stop the hurt.
I never knew that something so small
could affect my life so much.
I never knew that I could love someone so much.
I never knew I would love being a Mom.

Before I was a Mom,
I didn't know the feeling of
having my heart outside my body.
I didn't know how special it could feel
to feed a hungry baby.
I didn't know that bond
between a mother and her child.
I didn't know that something so small
could make me feel so important and happy.

Before I was a Mom,
I had never gotten up in the middle of the night
every 10 minutes to make sure all was okay.
I had never known the warmth,
the joy,
the love,
the heartache,
the wonderment or the satisfaction of being a Mom.
I didn't know I was capable of feeling so much,
before I was a Mom .

Yes, I know it is spelled wrong but there is a story behind it. Last year we had a house full to celebrate Cinco de Mayo. We ordered some decorations and about half way through the party, someone realized that the Fiesta sign actually said Fietsa. And so we no longer have Fiestas, we have Fietsas!!

Well tonight Hanna attended her first Fietsa at Cheyanne and Parkers. She was truly in the spirit!!

Good Morning!

This is how I found Hanna at 3:30 this morning (sideways in the crib). Baby girl moves around a lot when she sleeps! She is too long to even straighten out her legs!
This is our first diaper change this morning. The last few days Hanna has really wanted to hold on to the burp cloth and brush it against her face.

Thursday, May 7, 2009

I am so glad that it stopped raining tonight long enough for Hanna and I to take a quick stroll through the neighborhood. She was sitting up in the stroller like a big girl oohing and aahing at everything. I hope this is the end of the rain, at least for a while.

Oh! I think Hanna is trying to blow raspberries. When I am changing her diaper I give her a few on her belly and she gives me the biggest smiles and laughs at me. Last night I did it and about 30 seconds later she tried to do a raspberry. And then it happened again. And again and again. Aunt Becki tried to get her to do it today and like a little pistol, Hanna gave her half-a-one and that was it.

I am a bad pictures from the last few days but I will get some this weekend.

I did it. I got myself to the gym and took a spin class. It was hard but worth it. I feel good now but my story may change tomorrow morning. Here's hoping this helps me lose the last bit of weight I have been struggling with. I know I took me 8 months to gain it, it isn't going to drop over night.

Off to bed, 4:30 comes around mighty early!

Fightin Phils

The Phillies trophy was at Woodbury Nissan on Saturday so we thought it would be great to take Hanna since she was at the parade after all. It was cool to see up close but it was smaller then I thought it would be. Hanna liked it because it was shiny. Oh and Stephen thought she looked like a Diva with the bow and silver sparkly sneakers. I disagree. I think she looked cute.

Yes. No. Maybe.

I'm not sure Hanna is too thrilled with the bumbo seat just yet....

Take me out to the ball game...

Last night was a big night for Miss Hanna B. Nanna. She went to Citizens Bank Park for her first baseball game. No, it wasn't a Phillies game but she did get to sit one row behind the diamond dugout. MattiU plays 1st base for the Wilmington University Wildcats and was playing in the Bill Giles Invitational Championship game. We couldn't miss this great experience for him. Wilmington lost to West Chester but it was a great game. Here are a few pictures that we took.
