Preparing Morgan!

I came across a post on a baby board about what people are doing to prepare their dogs for baby’s arrival. And it got me to thinking. What am I doing except babying her more now then I did before?? It must be my hormones because all she has to do is look at me in even the slightest cutest way and I melt. But anyhoo.

There were all kinds of suggestions on preparing dogs. Some suggested not letting the dog sleep on the bed anymore. We tried that. But then she is sooo cute and finds her way up there. We tried only allowing her on the bed on the weekends and that seemed to work well for a while. But what about when Stephen goes to a fire? She just knows where he is going and sometimes before he is out the door she wants up on the bed and of course I let her!! The other night was a perfect example. I said “As soon as Papa leaves you can get up here.”….”Ok, sounds like he is gone, get up here.” Then he walks back in the room and we are busted!! I have learned the key is to getting her off the bed before he comes back to bed. And usually it works.

Oh and yes I talk to my dog. And no she doesn’t answer.

Another suggestion was downloading a baby crying on the computer and playing it so the dog could here it a couple of times a day. We haven’t tried that yet but I can imagine the head tilt we’ll get.

One of the other suggestions that I really liked was not giving the dog as much attention as she is used too. I know I said I am babying her more but it’s not attention all the time. She has this thing, when I walk in the door, where she runs around like a maniac and wants me to rub her belly. Well, I stopped doing that as soon as I come in. Now she finds a bone or a ball and calms quicker. This is good for everyone.

I think we have a slight advantage over others who don’t have other kids or nieces or nephews near by. We have Ava. And Morgan LOVES Ava. So much so that we have to remind Ava to keep her mouth closed when Morgy is kissing her. Yes, Morgan is excited when she first arrives and may knock her down a time or two but after a few minutes they are best buds.

The only problem I foresee is differentiating the baby’s toys from Morgan’s toys. Ava has this Mr. Bear that she likes to bring to Aunt Kelli and Uncle Stephen’s. But as soon as Morgy sees it, she takes it and runs. And it then becomes covered in schmeg and we have to pry her mouth open to get it back. Once Mr. Bear is safe he is put in a purse or on top of the fridge until they leave.

We tried carrying a Cabbage Patch doll around a little bit to get her adjusted to our attention being directed elsewhere. But do the dolls really smell like a real baby? No. So she just wanted to lick the dolls legs. I think we may have to try it again when it gets closer.

We also say the word baby to her a lot. Hopefully someday it will click.

So this post is much longer then I expected. Sorry!

23 Weeks and a few days...

Well I am well into my 23rd week already and feeling ok. I have all of the typical pregnancy symptoms which are loads of fun. You know the backache, trouble sleeping, swollen hands and feet. All of the fun stuff :)

Someone who has never been pregnant asked me today what the kicks feel like. I can only describe it as a thumping in my belly. Most times it is one or two good thumps. Last night it felt like “Chickpea” was dragging a foot or hand across my belly. It was the strangest feeling. Must have been the cupcake that I ate!! Mom says she hopes “Chickpea” eventually starts kicking me in the ribs. Apparently, I kicked her in the ribs a lot.

This week “Chickpea” weighs as much as a mango (about a pound). I have a pretty big belly for only having a one pound baby in there! Sometimes I worry that it is too big and that I am going to be enormous come January but at every visit the doctors assures me everything is ok.

I promise to post a recent belly picture soon. Yes Karen, I forgot to take it on Sunday and I told you I would!!

Christmas in October!

Just a quick post - not baby related.

As you all know, Stephen is in the process of renovating our laundry room and bathroom downstairs. Yesterday...I got walls!!!! This is so exciting. That means this project is closer to being done. I felt like a child seeing all the unopened presents under the tree on Christmas morning.

I just wanted to share my excitement!

I'll post something baby related soon. I promise :)

22 Weeks!

Wow! It's been a while. I guess I just haven't been much in the mood for blogging. Sorry folks!

Well, "Chickpea" is now 22 weeks along and currently the size of a spaghetti squash. For weighing only about a pound, this is some belly I am sporting!! The kicking is getting more intense. I especially love the 2am kicking sessions that last for an hour. I know I shouldn't be complaining and I'm not...really. I would love to feel the kicking then feel nothing at all.

This weekend was nice. I got a mani and a pedi which always makes a gal feel better. And it bought Stephen more time before I ask him to trim my toe nails again. Sometimes I get a little uncomfortable hunching over trying to do it myself :)

We went to the Tortilla Press in Collingswood and it was good!! I had the best guacamole I have ever had. I so recommend you check this place out.

And then there is the ear infection. I can't even remember the last time I had an ear infection. It was always Becki who had this problem. It explains a lot (the fever last week, the extra tiredness) and now that I have some medicine, hopefully I will feel better soon. All I want to do is sleep. Stephen told me today that as much as I don't want to take medicine, me being sick isn't good for me or for "Chickpea" so taking medicine for a few days isn't a bad thing. At least it isn't the stomach bug that is going around!!

We didn't take a belly picture this week (slackers, I know!) but I will try and remember to this weekend.

Catch ya later!

How bad do you wanna know?

As you all know, "Chickpea" was breach at the ultrasound a few weeks ago. Stephen and I decided since there is no medical reason for me to have another ultrasound, we aren't going to find out if "Chickpea" is a "he-pea" or a "she-pea".

But this has been met with some resistance as knowing the sex will make shopping easier for some.

So this my proposal: The cost of the 3D ultrasound where we can find out the sex is approximately $200. Donations will gladly be accepted :)

21 weeks!

My how time flies!! I can't believe I am in week 21 all ready. "Chickpea" is kicking up a storm and Stephen has felt quite a few kicks over the last few days. It is all very exciting! According to the things I have read, "Chickpea" is the length of a carrot (10.5 inches) and weighs as much as 3/4 of a pound.

I have a little more energy today then I have had in a while which is nice. Hopefully it will last more then just today!

Oh, and I am now that much closer to 30. I won't be giving a wohoo to that!

Feeling better about things

Yesterday Stephen and I went to the doctors. One of the bad things about going to an office with many doctors is that you can't really build a relationship with any of the doctors. Everytime I go I see someone new and they don't know me from the next pregnant lady. But the doctor we saw yesterday was very nice. He listened to my concerns about the ultrasound last week and apologized even though it had nothing to do with him or this office. He agreed that something must have been going on that day to cause such awful bedside manners in both the tech and the doctor. He did have the results from the ultrasound and the good news is that everything is great with "Chickpea" and I have no reason to be concerned.

It's still easier said then done!

"Chickpea's" heartbeat was about 140 or that of a girl. If my memory is right, I think 3 out of 4 predictions have been a girl.

The doctor also told me my weight gain is good and that my belly is a good size. He also explained what the ultrasound pictures were...yes, I couldn't tell what was what. I will scan them as soon as I get motivated to do so! :)

So all in all I am feeling better. The anxiety is still there but not as bad as it was. I am sure with time it will get even better.

My next visit is the first week in November and the most fun visit of all!! I get to drink the fun stuff to determine if I have gestational diabetes. So looking forward to it. Not!

Hope you all have a good weekend!

Ice Cream

I love ice cream. I really do. I had a fudge pop last night (not really ice cream but close!) while watching my saved episode of One Tree Hill. Yes, it is a younger persons show but I still love it.

(I won't tell you that I watched Monday's episode of the Hills before that!)

I was getting ready to go to bed when Stephen came in from the firehouse. Nothing abnormal about it except that he had a milkshake. Just one. For himself and I was very upset. How could he!? He tells me he thought I would be asleep. Well, I should have been yes but I would have gladly woken up for a milkshake. So I whine (I know...) and low and behold he was hiding mine to make me mad. Well it worked (his hiding, my whining) but it was really good.

Yeah yeah..I know I complain about gaining wait and that I don't need both a fudge pop and a milkshake with 2 hours of each other but they were good. And if the opportunity to do so again were to arise, I would do it.

And I am having salad for lunch today to make up for it :)
